- The "Administrator" is responsible for the display and its encoding, for the promotion of members to higher (or lower) levels of responsibility, and for the general upkeep of the website.
- An "Editor" is a day-to-day manager of the website and can promote essays from the Diary Section to the Front Page, fix typos and image problems wherever found, and perform other helpful tasks. Their own essays are usually found on the Front Page.
- The Project currently has a few "Featured Essayists" whose writing appears on the Front Page, but do not have editorial responsibilities.
- Most account holders are "Trusted Correspondents" whose essays may appear in the Community Essays Section or may be "promoted" to the Front Page by Editors. Trusted Correspondents may post essays or comments.
- When you first establish an account you have to wait one day before you can post an essay. You can open an account and comment on others' essays the same day.
- If you are "banned" for churlish behaviors (such as seen on other political websites), you will not be reinstated.
