We have heard it a million times. Abstinence is not a well adhered to policy when it comes to teens and sex. Even our recent Republican Vice Presidential candidate's daughter has said...it doesn't work. Now when you hear it from the mouth of a girl who's mother has preached nothing but abstinence maybe she's on to something.
In a perfect world it would be nice to say that things are as they used to be. That is not to say that there has not been sex before marriage since time immemorial. There are even court records listing the fines imposed on our colonial ancestors for randiness between the sheets without benefit of marriage. But,there certainly used to be more taboos against it. Some of us still remember when becoming pregnant out of wedlock was a major societal no-no.
Now however, Abstinence Only as a major part of Sex Education or as the only part of a sex education curriculum is on it's way out. |
