Individual Liberty—Progress—Humanity—Ethics—Rule of Law
"...if by a liberal they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people—their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, their civil liberties—if that is what they mean by a "liberal," then I am proud to be a liberal."
There is not a day that has gone by in the last week when we did not have headlines glaring at us telling us that Jon and Kate Gosselin are splitting and we can look forward to years worth of articles detailing their eight offsprings travels through the mental health system.
Governor Mark Sanford's flights of fancy have taken down eight people as well (a wife, a mistress and six offspring). Can we say selfish? And no I am not trying to point fingers and I am not blaming anyone but jeez Louise, did anyone ever stop and think just who else was going to eventually be involved? We have a total of fourteen children here we had no say and no choice in their parents mess ups but they will be the ones who ultimately pay the price.
We are now being asked if the fact that Governor Sanford seems to be truly in love with the object of his Argentinian trip, and shouldn't this make a difference on how we view him. I could care less. I am just so sorry for those who must stand on the sidelines and watch their very private lives play out for an audience of millions. Jon and Kate Gosselin set themselves up for whatever chips might fall. They have had cameras rolling within thier house for the past 5 years. But Jenny Sanford had had no such bargain and has nonetheless suddenly seen her life become a reality show.
So is Governor Sanford in love? I do not know nor do I care. Most read into his body language, his tears and his rambling apology the fact that he absolutely was/is in love and therefore it made it harder. This would seem to be the case when one considers those who have gone before not being at all emotionally invested in those with whom they "sinned"...unless we count Jimmy Swaggert. But Sanford had set himself up, as had so many before him as a holier than thou, prime example of moral rectitude and betrayed everyone. I am beginning to think that enrollment in the GOP includes the ability to create the juiciest scandal and then ask God's forgiveness in front of a nationwide audience. That apparently is The Family Values way.
My heart goes out to those who have been injured by those whose egos are obviously no match for their brains...the one they alledgedly have in their heads. But then power is the ultimate aphrodisiac.
